Monster Munch Furry Monster Glove Puppets

Seems only right that these feature first… In 1986 Monster Munchers had the opportunity to have fun with the monsters in their own homes by owning their very own Furry Monster Glove Puppet! The set comprised of three puppets produced by Koea for Lefray Toys comprising of pink, blue and yellow. All handmade in “high quality furry fabric and comply with British and European Safety Standards for children over 3 years of age.” And that wasn’t all, each puppet came with its very own Monster Fun Book full of “Monster plays, games and puzzles”! To receive a puppet and book Monster Munchers simply had to collect 6 tokens from the packs and send them away along with a crossed cheque or Postal Order for £1.50 (to cover postage and VAT) The offer expired on 28th of February 1987.

  1. My brother and I sent off for these. Can't remember whether you had to collect tokens or just send a cheque but we sent off for two of each, six puppets in total, so we'd have a set each.

Imagine our excitement when the parcel was waiting for us after school one day. The excitement didn't last long.

Inside where puppets and a letter explaining they'd run out of pink and yellow monsters so "here's what we've got left"

    Six blue puppets. :(

Long since lost so thanks for posting this pic as it brings back some memories.

  3. Just FYI, you had to collect six crisp tokens and send £1.50 postage. I remember so clearly because I wasn't allowed Monster Munch and I had to go around a local primary school next to my gran's house at the weekend, looking for the crisp packets on the ground. After much searching for tokens I got the yellow puppet, but lost it, and was gutted when, on re-ordering another one, was told they had run out and, like your first commenter, they sent me the blue monster (obviously not popular as he was as scary as a teddy bear - in fact it looked like a dog with a daft hat on). Compare this to the quiet horror of a Cyclops or a giant mouthed pink thing. One day I will find one of the yellow puppets and buy it. I still miss Eddie...
